10. Treading

lǚ · Heaven ☰ over Wind ☴

Attentiveness in action — moving through difficult terrain without unnecessary risk.

The Noble One's Path

Heaven above the lake — an image of clear order, where everything has its place. The Noble One knows where his own place is, and respects where the place of others lies. This is propriety (Li) in its most practical form.

The Lesson

You can reach your goal even in difficult conditions — if you act with respect, rather than trying to dominate the situation.

A question to sit with

Where am I acting too forcefully, instead of carefully watching what's actually happening?
